Memórias das práticas parentais e projeções parentais futuras em estudantes universitários: um estudo exploratório

Abstract

O presente estudo procurou analisar a perceção dos jovens do Ensino Superior relativamente aos seus estilos parentais futuros, tendo por base as suas memórias de infância referentes às práticas parentais dos seus progenitores. A amostra foi constituída por 217 sujeitos: 172 do género feminino e 45 do género masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 30 anos. Para a concretização do estudo utilizaram-se três questionários: um questionário sociodemográfico, o Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour (EMBU) e o Questionário de Perceções de Estilos Parentais Futuros (QPEPF). Os principais resultados mostram que existe relação entre as memórias de infância relativas às práticas parentais e as projeções parentais futuras dos jovens. Estes resultados evidenciam, primeiramente, uma relação significativa e negativa entre as memórias de sobreproteção e as memórias de rejeição do pai com as projeções do estilo autoritativo. De seguida, indicam uma relação significativa e positiva entre as memórias de sobreproteção do pai e as memórias de rejeição da mãe e do pai com as projeções do estilo autoritário. E, por fim, uma relação significativa e negativa entre as memórias de rejeição da mãe e as projeções do estilo permissivo; Memories of Parenting Practices and Future Parenting Projections in University Students: an exploratory study Abstract: The present study sought to analyze the perception of young people in Higher Education regarding their future parenting styles, based on their childhood memories of their parents' parenting practices. The sample consisted of 217 subjects: 172 female and 45 male, aged between 18 and 30 years. To carry out the study, three questionnaires were used: a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Inventory for Assessing Memories of Parental Rearing Behaviour (EMBU) and the Questionnaire of Perceptions of Future Parenting Styles (QPFPS). The main results show that there is a relationship between childhood memories related to parental practices and future parental projections of young people. These results show, first, a significant and negative relationship between memories of overprotection and memories of rejection by the father with projections of the authoritative style. Next, they indicate a significant and positive relationship between the father's overprotection memories and the mother's and father's rejection memories with the projections of the authoritarian style. And, finally, a significant and negative relationship between the mother's rejection memories and the projections of the permissive style.
