Clínica e cirurgia de animais de companhia: carcinoma urotelial da bexiga em cães

Abstract

O presente relatório foi realizado no contexto da conclusão do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora. Este retrata o estágio curricular de seis meses, realizado no Hospital Veterinário Bom Jesus (HVBJ), em Braga, de 5 de setembro de 2022 a 5 de março de 2023. Neste está incluída uma análise estatística da casuística observada pela autora; uma monografia intitulada de “Carcinoma Urotelial da Bexiga em Cães”; e uma descrição e discussão de um caso clínico de uma cadela de 15 anos diagnosticada com carcinoma urotelial vesical. O carcinoma urotelial da bexiga é a neoplasia mais comum do trato urinário inferior, tanto em cães como em gatos. A sua localização preferencial é no trígono vesical o que, associado ao seu comportamento invasivo e alta capacidade de metastização, constitui um desafio no tratamento da doença, estando o prognóstico dependente de diversos fatores; “Small Animal Practice and Surgery: Urothelial Carcinoma of the bladder in dogs” Abstract: This report was carried out in the context of the conclusion of the Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Évora. It depicts the sixmonth curricular internship, held at the Bom Jesus Veterinary Hospital (HVBJ), in Braga, from September 5th, 2022 to March 5th, 2023. A statistical analysis of the case load observed by the author is included followed by a monograph entitled "Urothelial Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder in Dogs" and the description and discussion of a clinical case in a 15-years-old female dog diagnosed with urinary bladder transitional cell carcinoma. Bladder transitional cell carcinoma is the most common neoplasm of the lower urinary tract, both in dogs and cats. It is preferably located in the vesical trigone which, associated with its invasive behavior and high metastazing capacity, constitutes a challenge in the treatment of this disease, for which the prognosis depends on several factors.
