Abstract
The effects of two concentrations of NH4VO3 (25 and 75 mM) on complex I and complex III of mitochondrial electron-transport chain and glutathione peroxidase (GpX, EC 1.11.1.9) were studied in wild-type wine yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, strain UE-ME3 grown in agar plate medium . A significantly decrease of NADH-Q2 reductase, and GpX enzymatic activities for the 25 and 75 mM concentration and a significantly decrease of NADH-cit c reductase for the 25 mM concentration were observed in treated cells. The result show that NH4VO3, a pentavalent salt of vanadium (V), caused oxidative damages at mitochondrial respiratory chain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, strain UE-ME3.
