Envolvimento do estudante na escola e autoestima: um estudo com alunos dos 2º e 3º ciclos

Abstract

O envolvimento dos estudantes na escola é um constructo multidimensional que integra dimensões afetivas, comportamentais e cognitivas de ligação à escola. A investigação tem demonstrado que as três dimensões do envolvimento são fortemente influenciadas por fatores contextuais e pessoais (Lam & Jimerson, 2008). Neste estudo pretende-se aprofundar os conhecimentos sobre o envolvimento do estudante na escola e perceber qual a sua relação entre a autoestima e o autoconceito. O estudo de cariz quantitativo incide sobre uma amostra de 174 estudantes do 2º e 3º ciclos de uma escola de Évora. Utilizaram-se dois instrumentos de avaliação de autorrelato: o Inquérito acerca do Envolvimento dos Estudantes na Escola (Veiga, Pavlovic, García, & Ochoa, 2010) e a versão Portuguesa do Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter, 1999; Peixoto, Martins, Mata, & Monteiro, 1999). Os resultados do presente estudo revelam correlações estatisticamente significativas entre as dimensões do envolvimento do estudante na escola, o autoconceito e a autoestima; ABSTRACT: The engagement with school is a multidimensional construt that includes affective, behavioral and cognitive dimensions linked to school. This investigation has shown that the three dimensions of engagement are strongly influenced by contextual and personal factors (Lam & Jimerson, 2008). In this review deepen the knowledge about the students engagement with school and realize what their relation between self-esteem and self-concept. Quantitative nature of this review concerns on a sample 174 students from 2nd and 3th cycles of middle school in Évora. We used two tools for evaluation the self report: Inquiry of students engagement with school (Veiga, Pavlovic, García, & Ochoa, 2010) and the Portuguese version from Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter,1999; Peixoto, Martins, Mata, & Monteiro, 1999). The results of the present review reveal statistically significant correlations between the dimensions of student engagement in school, and self-esteem.
