The post-Tridentine ecclesiastical Constitutions applied to the Évora and Bahia contexts/ As Constituições eclesiásticas pós-Tridentinas no espaço atlântico: Évora (Portugal) e Bahia (Brasil): uma análise comparativa

Abstract

O presente artigo procura discutir a aplicação de regras das Constituições Eclesiásticas em duas realidades distintas,Évora e Bahia, entre os séculos XVI e XVIII, com o intuito de contribuir para o debate já denso das pesquisas relativas ao Império Português em matéria de expansão da Igreja Católica e suas adaptações nessas realidades. Essa historiografia que arrolamos no texto vem revendo as abordagens que, focadas nos súbditos, deixaram de lado as implicações complexas entre o poder temporal e espiritual e destes com a organização de paróquias, dioceses e arquidioceses e mesmo com as linhas da Contra-Reforma nos seus seus aspectos subtis, mas decisivos, para o êxito do projeto católico emterras ibéricas, e que se projetaria em territórios ultramarinos. /// The present article seeks to discuss the application of the rules of the Ecclesiastical Constitutions in two distinct realities: Évora (Portugal) and Bahia (Brazil) between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, with the aim of contributing to the already dense debate of research on the Portuguese Empire in terms of the expansion of the Catholic Church and its adaptations inthese realities. The historiography, we have listed in the text,has been reviewing the approaches which, focused on the subjects, left aside the complex implications between temporal and spiritual power and these with the organization of parishes, dioceses, and archdioceses and even with the lines of the Counter-Reformation in its aspects subtle but decisive aspects for the success of the Catholic project in Iberian lands, and which would be projected into overseas territories.
