Presença judaica em Évora: morfologia e requalificação urbana da judiaria

Abstract

A Judiaria de Évora, local de residência da comunidade judaica eborense, é parte integrante do Centro Histórico e da história da cidade, desde os tempos de reconquista que a comunidade judaica residia na cidade. No século XV, Évora foi considerada a segunda cidade do reino e a comuna acabou por refletir grande poder económico. A presente investigação tenciona expor e analisar questões sociais, arquitetónicas e urbanas, como prevalece a memória desta comunidade na cidade e como evoluiu o bairro no decorrer dos anos. Pretende-se uma análise e uma comparação com a Judiaria de Castelo de Vide, bem como uma reflexão sobre a preservação do património urbano. Fundamentada pela tentativa de revitalização, valorização e salvaguarda é proposta a definição de estratégias de requalificação desta área, através de intervenções pontuais; JEWISH PRESENCE IN ÉVORA Morphology and urban requalification of the jewry ABSTRACT: The Jewish Quarter of Évora, place of residence of the Jewish community, constitutes part of the Historical Center and the city’s history since the reconquest times when the Jewish community resided in the area. Évora was considered the second kingdom city in the 15th century, and the commune resulted in a significant economic power. This research intends to expose and analyze social, architectural, and urban issues, how the memory of this community prevails in the city, and how the neighborhood evolved over the years through an analysis and comparison with the Jewish Quarter of Castelo de Vide reflecting over the urban heritage preservation. The Strategies presented, constituted by punctual interventions, support the growth, revitalization, and safeguard of the city.
