EFEITO DO TRATAMENTO COM IMPLANTES DE MELATONINA NA FERTILIDADE DE SÉMEN CONGELADO DE CARNEIROS DAS RAÇAS OVINAS MERINA PRETA E CAMPANIÇA

Abstract

Através da aplicação de implantes de melatonina é possível simular a estação mais favorável à reprodução nos ovinos que é o Outono. Neste trabalho aplicaram-se 3 implantes desta hormona a machos de raça Merina Preta (GPT, n=6) e de raça Campaniça (GCT, n=7), mantendo-se um grupo de raça Merina Preta sem qualquer tratamento (GPC, n=6). Sémen recolhido aos carneiros foi avaliado pelas provas de mobilidade individual, coloração vital e endosmose e congelado antes e após o efeito esperado da melatonina, sendo posteriormente aplicado por inseminação laparoscópica intrauterina a fêmeas das mesmas raças. Não se verificaram diferenças na fertilidade entre carneiros tratados e não-tratados e entre raças, possivelmente pela menor sazonalidade destas raças na latitude do Sul de Portugal. ################################################## By using melatonin implants we can mimic sheep’s best reproductive season, autumn. In the present study we used 3 implants of this hormone to treat Merino Preto (GPT, n=6) and Campaniça breed rams (GCT, n=7), keeping a not-treated group Merino Preto rams (GPC, n=6). Individual motility, vital stain and HOST tests were evaluated in all rams’ semen, which was frozen before and after the expected effect of melatonin. Then, this frozen semen was used in sheep of the same breeds by laparoscopic intrauterine insemination. No differences were observed between treated and not-treated rams’ fertility and between the two breeds. This maybe due to the lower seasonality exhibited by this breeds at the latitude of Southern Portugal.
