Abstract

O presente relatório foi realizado no âmbito do Estágio Curricular do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora. Este teve lugar na AniCura Algarve Hospital Veterinário, desde 18 de setembro de 2023 a 31 de dezembro de 2023. Este relatório divide-se em três partes. A primeira parte consiste na descrição da casuística observada nas diferentes áreas clínicas da Medicina Veterinária durante o estágio e a segunda parte corresponde à revisão bibliográfica sobre o tema “Dilatação e torção gástrica em cães”. Na terceira parte é descrito um caso clínico sobre este tema, acompanhado também durante o estágio. A Dilatação e torção gástrica é uma síndrome que afeta principalmente cães de raças grandes e gigantes com peito profundo. Geralmente o seu desenvolvimento é agudo, sendo caracterizada por uma dilatação abdominal progressiva com som timpânico à perfusão e desconforto. A condição é grave, sendo uma emergência médico-cirúrgica e pode levar à morte se não for tratada rapidamente; - Clinic and surgery in small animals Abstract: This report was written the scope of the Curricular Internship of the Integrated Master's Degree in Veterinary Medicine of University of Évora. It took place at AniCura Algarve Veterinary Hospital, between the days of september 18th, 2023 to december 31st, 2023. This report is divided into three parts. The first part consists of the description of the casuistry observed in the different clinical areas of Veterinary Medicine during the internship and the second part corresponds to the literature review on the theme "Gastric dilation and torsion in dogs". In the third part, a clinical case on this topic is described, also followed during the internship. Gastric dilation and torsion is a syndrome that mainly affects large and giant breed dogs with deep chests. Its development is usually acute, being characterized by progressive abdominal dilation with tympanic sound at perfusion and discomfort. The condition is serious, being a medical-surgical emergency and can lead to death if not treated quickly
