Políticas Sociais, Idosos e Famílias , no Alentejo

Abstract

Confrontamo-nos actualmente com um acentuado envelhecimento da população mundial, ao qual Portugal não ficou alheio, sobretudo o Alentejo. A sustentabilidade dos sistemas de segurança social e da saúde e o apoio aos familiares que cuidam de idosos são questões prioritárias. Pretende-se identificar os principais problemas com que se confrontam as famílias que cuidam de idosos e analisar a capacidade de resposta das redes formais, no Distrito de Évora. Optou-se por uma abordagem metodológica que combina os paradigmas qualitativo e quantitativo, com recurso ao questionário no caso dos familiares cuidadores e à entrevista aos representantes das instituições formais. A família continua a desempenhar um papel importante no suporte ao idoso, apesar das dificuldades e das respostas formais de que dispõe. Desta forma, deve privilegiar-se a prestação de cuidados no domicílio, após identificação das necessidades reais dessas famílias e idosos, com a formação adequada dos intervenientes, promovendo também um envelhecimento activo. ;Social policies, elderly people and their families in Alentejo We are, nowadays, facing a deep aging of the world population, in which Portugal is not apart, mainly the region of Alentejo. The health and social security systems sustainability, as well as the support to the families which take care to old people are a priority. It is intended to identify the main problems of these families, and analyze the capacity to solve them, along the region, and its services. It was chosen a methodological approach which combines qualitative and quantitative paradigms, with the help of a questioner to the caregiver families and an interview to the formal institutions representatives. Family still has an important part on the old people support, although all the difficulties and the formal answers available. So, there must be a privilege on the services provided at home, after an observation about the real necessities, with an adequate teaching of the participants, allowing an active aging.
