O elogio da água: desenhar nas margens de Mértola

Abstract

Desde sempre, o Homem interpretou a água como um elemento vital, estrutural e espiritual, enaltecendo-a com o seu uso, intrínseco à sobrevivência, mas também em práticas sociais e religiosas. A presente dissertação resulta da investigação sobre a forma como Mértola se relacionou historicamente com essa Água e se comportou nos seus ciclos de abundância e privação. Essa Água, multifacetada, desempenhou um papel fundamental no crescimento de Mértola e na sua interação com o Mediterrâneo, mas também, à escala local, na ligação ao arrabalde Além-Rio. Contudo, o tempo dissipou essa relação, deixando a vila descaracterizada, isolada e cada vez mais vulnerável à Seca. Propõe-se, com este trabalho, incrementar uma nova conexão entre Mértola e o Além-Rio através de um projeto arquitetónico que promova as várias vertentes da água, integrada na vida quotidiana da vila, e, em simultâneo, sensibilize para a sua melhor gestão, num, cada vez mais profundo, cenário de escassez; ABSTRACT: Man has always understood water as a vital, structural and spiritual element, praising it with its use, intrinsic to survival, but also in social and religious practices. This dissertation results from the investigation of how Mértola has historically related to this Water and behaved in its cycles of abundance and deprivation. This multi-faceted Water played a key role in the growth of Mértola and its interaction with the Mediterranean, but also, on a local scale, in the connection to the Além-Rio suburb. However, time has dissipated this relationship, leaving the village uncharacterized, isolated and increasingly vulnerable to drought. It is proposed, with this work, to increment a new connection between Mértola and Além-Rio through an architectural project that promotes the various aspects of water, integrated in the daily life of the village, and, at the same time, warns for its better management, in an increasingly profound scenario of scarcity
