O lugar da leitura de livros nas práticas culturais dos estudantes do ensino secundário: uma pesquisa extensiva no distrito de Portalegre

Abstract

na técnica do inquérito por questionário, as práticas de leitura de livros numa amostra representativa de alunos do Ensino Secundário num distrito do território português (Portalegre). Partindo dos enquadramentos teóricos nos campos das Ciências da Educação, Sociologia das práticas culturais e Sociologia da Leitura, procura situar práticas leitoras de livros em suporte impresso no leque de atividades culturais desenvolvidas pela população juvenil referida. São trabalhados em simultâneo os níveis leitores e os objetos de leitura. Revelam-se o modesto lugar que a leitura de livros ocupa no conjunto dos lazeres juvenis desta população e o facto de os investimentos leitores se intensificarem entre estudantes do sexo feminino e entre aqueles que mais socializados foram no ambiente familiar para a prática leitora. Revela-se, ainda, a forma como esses investimentos continuam a manter alguma relação com o capital escolar das famílias; Abstract: This work analyses, using extensive research methodology and based on the technique of the questionnaire survey, the practices of book reading in a representative sample of secondary school students in a Portuguese district (Portalegre). Taking as point of departures the theoretical frameworks of the Sciences of Education, Sociology of cultural practices, and Sociology of reading, it seeks to situate the practices of reading printed books in the range of cultural activities developed by this young population. The reading levels and the reading objects evidenced by the collected data are processed simultaneously. The research reveals the modest place that reading books occupies in the range of cultural activities of this young population. It also reveals that reading habits intensify among feminine readers and among those students that were more socialized towards reading in the family environment.
