Monetarização da economia no Algarve Romano: as cunhagens locais na viragem da Era

Abstract

A viragem da Era (séc. I a.C. – I d.C.) apresenta-se no Algarve como um período marcado pela transição de um sistema pré-romano para uma estrutura integrada na estrutura administração e economia romana. Neste período tem início a produção de moeda nesta região, que não se trata apenas de um fenómeno económico, mas também cultural, devido à presença de iconografia de influência púnica, como reflexo do contacto com esta cultura desde pelo menos o século IV a.C. Este fenómeno de monetarização representa não só a inserção desta região num novo paradigma administrativo e económico, mas também a afirmação de uma identidade própria de uma região periférica ao mundo mediterrâneo; Monetarization of the economy in Roman Algarve: the local coinage at the turn of the Era Abstract: The turning of the Era (1st c. BCE – 1st c. CE) presents itself in Algarve as a period marked by the transition from a pre-roman system to a structure which is integrated in the roman economy and administrative structure. In this period begins the production of coin in this region, which is not only an economic phenomenon, but also a cultural one, due to the presence of iconography of Punic influence as a reflex of the contact with this culture since the 4th c. BCE. This phenomenon of monetarization represents not only the insertion of this region in a new administrative and economic paradigm, but also the assertion of an identity particular of a region that is peripheric in the Mediterranean world.
