São as confrarias refúgio dos humildes? Contributo para o estudo das elites eborenses no final da Idade Média

Abstract

A presente dissertação intitulada "São as confrarias refúgio dos humildes? Contributo para o estudo das elites eborenses no final da Idade Média", pretende estudar estas instituições enquanto pólos de poder, de modo a compreender quão importantes foram para a consolidação de uma elite local, nos finais da Idade Média. A maioria das análises abordam as como instituições de assistência e auxílio, que triunfaram num período em que o indivíduo não era reconhecido socialmente sem se encontrar inserido num corpo social, porém, pela sua implantação e difusão no meio social, pela importância que lhes foi conferida, ao longo da Idade Média, deduz-se que estas instituições desempenhassem um papel preponderante no sistema de relações sociais e económicas estabelecido, cujo controle lhes podia conferir um elevado grau de influência, para orientar e controlar a opinião e o comportamento de sectores importantes de vida local. É este caracter socialmente actuante que torna as confrarias um objecto de estudo tão interessante. /*** Abstract - The present dissertation entitled "Are the confreres shelter of the humble ones?" Contribution for the study of the eborense elites in the end of the Middle Ages", pretends to study these institutions while a power centers, in order to understand how important they had been for the consolidation of the local elite, in the ends of the XV century. The majority of the studies analyse them as aid institutions, that had triumphed, in a period where the individual was not recognized socially without being included in a social body, however, its importance was deduced from its implementation and diffusion in the social environment, that makes we suspect that these institutions played a preponderant role in the established social and economical relationship system, who controls them could have a higher degree of influence, to guide and to condition the opinion and the behavior of important sectors of life place. It is this socially actuating characteristic that turns confreres into a such interesting study.
