Entre a obsolescência e o património: 2Km sobre carris, uma proposta de reactivação para Beja

Abstract

Do ponto de vista do Património Industrial é cada vez mais pertinente o estudo das estruturas cerealíferas que se manifestam na paisagem Alentejana a Sul de Portugal. Tendo sido esta região protagonista nas questões proteccionistas cerealíferas do século XIX e XX, os exemplares são muitos. De origem americana, os Silos de Cereais tornam-se modelos de uma nova vontade industrial modernista de associar o progresso tecnológico ao progresso arquitectónico em que a função é definidora da forma. Nesse sentido, a perda da função destes edifícios conduz à perda da sua utilização e consequentemente à sua presença cada vez mais obsolescente. É objectivo desta dissertação a categorização dos Silos enquanto Património Industrial, pela análise das questões económicas nacionais enquanto catalisadoras de uma nova arquitectura, e é na relação entre ambas que recai a proposta de reactivação destes conjuntos, na procura de um novo uso que impeça o avanço de ruína ao mesmo tempo que valoriza a memória destes ícones da cultura do trabalho;Between Obsolescence and Heritage: 2km rail, a reactivation proposal for Beja ABSTRACT: From the Industrial Heritage’s point of view, it is increasingly pertinent to study the cereal structures that manifest themselves in Southern Portugal Alentejo’s landscape. Having been this region protagonist in the cereal protectionist questions of the XIX and XX centuries the examples are many. Of American origin, Grain Elevators become models of a new modernist industrial will to associate the technological and architectural progress in which the function defines the form. In this sense, the loss of function of these buildings leads to the loss of theirs use and consequently to their increasingly obsolescent presence. The purpose of this dissertation is the categorization of Grain Elevators as Industrial Heritage, by the analysis of national economic questions as catalysts of a new architecture, and it is in the relation between both that falls the proposal of reactivation of these sets, in the research of a new use that prevents the advance of their ruin while, at the same time, enhancing the memory of this work culture icons.
