Abstract

A elaboração deste relatório foi realizada no âmbito do Estágio Curricular, um dos componentes do curso de Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária da Universidade de Évora. A primeira parte do trabalho engloba uma caracterização da zona onde se realizou o estágio, bem como do contexto agropecuário, seguindo-se a descrição das atividades acompanhadas ao longo dos seis meses de estágio. A segunda parte é composta por uma breve revisão bibliográfica sobre a dilatação de ceco em bovinos, acompanhada pelo relato de um caso clínico sobre esse mesmo tema e uma breve discussão. A dilatação de ceco é uma patologia sobre a qual ainda persistem inúmeras dúvidas, principalmente no que diz respeito à etiopatogenia, sendo um tema bastante interessante e discutível. Um exame físico atento e completo permite chegar ao diagnóstico final e, a partir daí, é tomada a decisão de se optar pela terapêutica médica ou cirúrgica; Abstract: Farm Animal Medicine and Surgery The preparation of this report was carried out within the scope of the Curricular Internship, one of the components of the Integrated Master’s in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Évora. The first part of the work includes a characterization of the area where the internship took place, as well as the agricultural context, followed by a description of the activities monitored over the six months of internship. The second part consists in a brief bibliographic review of cecal dilation in cattle, accompanied by a clinical case report on the same topic and a brief discussion. Dilation of the cecum is a pathology about which there are still many doubts, especially regarding its etiopathogenesis, being a very interesting and debatable topic. A careful and thorough physical examination allows reaching the final diagnosis and, from there, the decision is made to take medical or surgical therapy.
