Coffe Value Chain in Timor-Leste

Abstract

Coffee’s chains in Timor-Leste have many processes, from producer to consumer, through suppliers and intermediates in order to provide products, services and information, increasing their value. The main phases on this chain are characterized based on direct observation and interviews to key actors for identifying problems, sales situation, opportunities and weaknesses. As results, the efforts must be centred in different steps. There is room to increase yields and quality as well as the producer’s income through training of the farmers, production and processing improvements and, infrastructures investments. It is highly recommended the improvement of the market transparency and the adoption of complementary activities to the coffee value chain.
