Abstract

The didactic text Textile Fibres and Natural Dyes: From Nature to Color explains how natural fibres and dyes interact to produce color in textiles. It describes the structure of plant and animal fibres and their influence on dye absorption, as well as traditional dyeing methods such as vat, mordant, and direct dyeing. The main chromatic groups, blue, red, yellow, brown, and black, are briefly presented through key natural sources. The text also discusses how dyes were transformed into lakes for painting, their light sensitivity and degradation, and concludes with reflections on conservation and the sustainable revival of natural dyes in contemporary textile practices.
