As Eleições legislativas no Alentejo durante a I República (1910-1926)

Abstract

Neste livro, os seus autores procuraram “retratar” pormenorizadamente as eleições legislativas na I República (1910-1926) nos seis círculos do Alentejo. Após análise da legislação eleitoral, e da contextualização política em que o sufrágio decorreu, são abordadas as suas diversas etapas e contingências, nomeadamente a escolha dos candidatos, a campanha eleitoral, o clientelismo, os acordos, as fraudes e outras irregularidades. Em termos quantitativos (e não só), este estudo faz a comparação com outros que o precederam, apresentando para algumas eleições novos e definitivos dados. Antes dos quadros gerais, e da conclusão, é analisado o perfil social e político dos deputados eleitos no Alentejo durante a I República.

In this book, the authors have tried to “portray” in detail the legislative elections in the First Portuguese Republic (1910-1926) in the six Alentejo constituencies. After analyzing the electoral legislation and the political context in which the elections took place, the various stages and contingencies are addressed, namely the choice of candidates, the electoral campaign, clientelism, agreements, fraud and other irregularities. In quantitative terms (and not only), this study compares it with others that preceded it, presenting new and definitive data for some elections. Before the general tables and the conclusion, the social and political profile of the deputies elected in Alentejo during the First Republic is analyzed.
