Análise do abandono escolar: caso dos alunos de Cabo Verde em Portugal

Abstract

O abandono escolar é um dos problemas mais preocupantes para todos os intervenientes nas instituições de ensino superior, devido às suas consequências para a sociedade – desperdício de recursos, pobreza e desigualdade social, económica e educacional. Este estudo permitiu identificar motivos que explicam o (in) sucesso de estudantes cabo-verdianos que frequentam/frequentaram cursos de licenciatura nas universidades portuguesas. O estudo é importante pois não existe investigação anterior que permita identificar as causas do abandono desses alunos e a revisão da literatura indica que as causas do abandono na universidade diferem em função do país, instituição, curso ou alunos estudados. A análise qualitativa desenvolvida sugere que as causas do abandono escolar dos estudantes analisados são financeiras e pedagógicas, relacionadas com a insuficiente formação no ensino secundário; Analysis of school dropout: the case of Cape Verde Students in Portugal Abstract: Dropping out of school is one of the most worrying problems for those involved in higher education, due to its consequences for society – waste of resources, poverty and social, economic and educational inequality. This study allowed us to identify reasons that explain the (un)success of Cape Verdean students who attend/attended first degree courses at Portuguese universities. The study is important because there is no previous research that allows identifying the causes of dropout of these students and the literature review indicates that the causes of dropout at the university differ depending on the country, institution, course or students studied. The qualitative analysis carried out suggests that the causes of school dropout of the analysed students are financial and pedagogical, related to insufficient training in secondary education.
