A new northern limit for the distribution range of Lipophrys canevae (Pisces: Blenniidae) in the Atlantic ocean

Abstract

Until recently Lipophrys canevae was considered as an endemic species of the Mediterranean sea. In this paper we report the occurrence of this species at Arrábida, near the mouth of the river Sado. This finding extends the range of this species 160 km north, to an area that is not under direct influence of the Mediterranean sea.
