Identidade colectiva e valores culturais - O lugar das Caldas da Rainha (Portugal) e o seu património termal no século XXI

Abstract

O Património representa um conjunto de valores desenvolvidos da relação entre o Indivíduo, o Grupo e o Espaço, da qual surgem características identitárias que determinam a Comunidade e o Lugar. Trata-se de um legado de elementos materiais e imateriais, importante para as gerações seguintes, representante desses valores que se encontram em constante evolução. Numa época em que a conexão e harmonia entre novo e existente é essencial para a salvaguarda do Património, esta investigação centra-se no reconhecimento dos valores passados e actuais para a preservação da Comunidade, do Lugar e do Património, questionando-se: Como pode a intervenção em Património Arquitectónico preservar os valores culturais e a Identidade Colectiva? Analisando o legado de uma tipologia característica – o Património Termal –, de uma localidade nascida do costume associado e que expandiu além da origem – as Caldas da Rainha –, pretende-se perceber a relação entre os valores passados e actuais, o impacto da queda do costume e do abandono dos equipamentos, e a sua actual posição no espaço identitário da Comunidade, de modo a sugerir directrizes para uma preservação respeitadora do Património e do Lugar, e integrante do legado abandonado na ambiência actua; Collective Identity and Cultural Values The place of Caldas da Rainha (Portugal) and its Thermal Heritage in the 21st century - Abstract: Heritage represents a set of values developed from the relation between the Individual, the Group, and the Space, from which emerge identity characteristics that determine the Community and the Place. It is a legacy of material and immaterial elements, relevant for the next generations, which represents these values that are constantly evolving. At a time when the connection and harmony between new and existing is essential for the preservation of Heritage, this research focuses on the recognition of past and present values to maintain the Community, the Place and the Heritage, questioning: How can an intervention in Architectural Heritage preserve the cultural values and the Collective Identity? Analysing the legacy of a characteristic typology – the Thermal Heritage –, of a town born from the custom associated and that has grown beyond its origin – Caldas da Rainha –, it is intended to understand the relation between past and current values, the impact of the fall of the custom and the abandonment of its buildings, and its current position in the identity space of the Community, to propose guidelines for a respectful preservation of the Heritage and the Place, and that integrates the abandoned heritage in the town’s environment.
