Paisagens florestais - Desenho de uma paisagem florestal e a importância na sua gestão. Caso de estudo: perímetro florestal da Serra de São Mamede

Abstract

A floresta é um elemento fundamental e estruturante da paisagem global, da qual dependem os principais recursos naturais que sustentam os ecossistemas e as sociedades humanas. Em Portugal, as paisagens florestais começaram a atravessar a partir de meados do século XX um período de forte descaracterização, quer pela expansão das monoculturas florestais intensivas, erroneamente consideradas florestas, quer pela dificuldade da própria definição do que é uma floresta. O presente trabalho parte da procura dessa definição para responder a uma necessidade de transição e adaptação destas paisagens, a um cenário iminente de alterações climáticas e outras ameaças subjacentes, como os incêndios florestais, assentando o trabalho na análise de um caso de estudo de uma paisagem florestal relevante no Alto Alentejo, a paisagem do Perímetro Florestal da Serra de São Mamede, no PNSSM (Parque Natural da Serra de São Mamede). A compatibilização das funções ecológicas, económicas e sociais na paisagem é o grande desafio da humanidade para o futuro próximo, procurando-se com este trabalho formalizar uma proposta de ordenamento de uma floresta multifuncional e biodiversa; ABSTRACT: Forest Landscapes - Design of a Forest Landscape and the importance in its management. Case study: Serra de São Mamede Forest Perimeter The forest is a fundamental and structural element of the global landscape, on which depend the main natural resources that support the ecosystems and human societies. In Portugal, since the twentieth century, forest landscapes have suffered a period of strong decharacterization, either by the expansion of intensive forest monocultures, wrongly considered forests, or by the difficulty of defining what a forest really is. The present dissertation work starts from the search of this definition to respond to the need of transition and adaptation of these landscapes, to an imminent scenario of climate change and other underlying threats, such as forest fires, basing the work on a case study analysis of a relevant forest landscape in the Alto Alentejo, the Serra de São Mamede Forest Perimeter landscape. The compatibility of ecological, economic and social functions in the landscape is the greatest challenge for Humanity in the near future and in the years to come, aiming this work to formalize a proposal for the planning of a multifunctional and biodiverse forest.
