Abstract

The present paper focuses on the linguistic aspects of P." António Vieíra' s writing at the phonetic, phonological, morphological, syntactical and lexical levels, with the purpose of giving clues to the characterization of the sixteenth Portuguese. The corpus used is the Representação dos motivos que tive para me parecerem prováveis as Proposições de que tratava (1665/1666), balanced with the data from the first volume of Sermões (1679-1748).
