A Biblioteca de S. Martinho de Tibães no século XVIII

Abstract

O trabalho inicia-se com uma introdução onde avulta a crítica das fontes, a descrição da metodologia e refere o estado da arte na Espanha, na França e em autores portugueses contemporâneos. Apresenta-se o Mosteiro de Tibães, casa mãe da Congregação de S. Bento de Portugal, sua orgânica e riqueza; da sua opulenta biblioteca; da dispersão dos livros após a extinção das ordens religiosas e de Frei Francisco de S. Luís, autor do Index desta Biblioteca, cujo conteúdo se estuda usando a estatística e recorrendo a quadros, gráficos etc. Averigua-se da existência de livros proibidos, observam-se as contas da livraria e apresentam-se os seus incunábulos. Mostra-se a inegável valia dos livros de História, a classe principal, depois da Teologia. Uma conclusão, a bibliografia e os anexos com a cópia integral do Index finalizam a dissertação. /ABSTRACT - This work begins with an introduction which includes an examination of sources, the description of the methodology and describes the state-of-the-art in Spain, France, and among contemporary Portuguese authors. This thesis makes use of statistics, graphs and tables to examine the Monastery of Tibães, home of the Congregation of S. Bento de Portugal, its wealth, its opulent library, the dispersal its books after the abolition of the religious orders and Frei Francisco de S. Luis, author of the Index of this library. This thesis presents research concerning the existance of banned books the the accounts of the library its incunabula. The importance of history books, the main class after theology, is shown. The Thesis ends with a conclusion, bibliography and annexes with a full copy of the Index.
