Abstract
Hydroelectric dams are some of the infrastructure that ensures the production of electricity. However, these constitute artificial barriers, directly influencing sediment transport, accelerating
sedimentation and reducing its useful life. Sedimentary dredging becomes more frequent, raising problems associated with its correct deposition. One of the options for sediments reutilization is its
application in agriculture, being necessary the special and vertical characterization of nutrients. Thus, in
sedimentary columns collected in two reservoirs from the Dominican Republic (Sabana Yegua - SY and Tavera - T) of P
Total and P Ext, C Total and C Org., K
Ext, N and S. Nutrients in soils are essential for plant production since they are absorbed by plants and they are essential for their vegetative cycle. The
sediments analysis revealed higher vertical variability and between samples, and higher contents of nutrients in SY, compared to T. Comparing with average values for agricultural soils, sediments show higher contents in extractable phases, suggesting the possibility of their reuse in agriculture.
