As grandes permanências civilizacionais agrícolas: a tradução das Geórgicas de Vergílio de Ruy Mayer (1948)

Abstract

Nos anos 40 a elite fisiocráta que apoiava Oliveira Salazar na sua política agrarista fascinou-se pelos valores Clássicos de Columela e dos seus sucedâneos. Com o objectivo de sustentar moral e eticamente a sua actuação analisaram e recuperaram os grandes paradigmas greco-latinos, através da publicação de um vasto número de obras, das quais se destaca a tradução do poema de Virgílio As Geórgicas traduzidas pelo agrónomo Ruy Mayer. A publicação desta tradução inseriu-se numa estratégia ideológica, apresentando-se desvinculada do valor que tinha, pois o tradutor preocupa-se sobretudo em estudar e comentar o agrónomo. Tendo como suporte teórico as áreas do Comparativismo, Tradução e História pretende-se fazer neste trabalho a caracterização do neofisiocratismo em Portugal, dos seus objectivos e impulsionadores, bem como a análise da tradução de Ruy Mayer, concluindo-se sobre a especificidade do seu projecto tradutivo, visto que se encontra inserida numa estratégia de actuação de uma elite defensora da causa Re-rustica. /*** Abstract - In the forties the physiocratic elite that supports Oliveira Salazar in his agrariam policy became fascinated by the Columela Classics, as well as its succedaneous. With the aim of supporting its moral and ethical action, they analised and brought to light the great Greco-latin paradigms, through Virgílio's poem As Geórgicas, translated by the agronomist Ruy Mayer. The publishing of the translation was a part of an idiological strategy, showing itself unattached of the value it used to have, because the translator's train of thought is to study and comment the agronomist. Having as theoretical comer stone of the areas of Comparativism, Translation and History. This work tries to do a characterization of the neo-physiocratism in Portugal. This work also tries to do the characterization of the aims and the meutors of the neophysiocratism. It also tries to analyze Ruy Mayer's translation, since it is part of a strategy of action of elite that defends the Re-rustica cause.
