Cartografia e iconografia antigas no processo evolutivo das torres militares, civis e religiosas na cidade de Évora - Portugal

Abstract

RESUMO: No início, as urbes foram construídas com recintos amuralhados para a defesa e, estes sistemas defensivos eram pontuados por torres, cujo objetivo era a observação da área envolvente. Évora é uma cidade de origem remota tendo sido habitada sucessivamente por vários povos, os romanos, os godos e os sarracenos, entre outros. Integra atualmente três circuitos de muralhas: a da Alta Idade Média no período romano-godo-árabe, a da Baixa Idade Média nos séculos XIII/XIV e o conjunto abaluartado construído no período das guerras da restauração, com o sistema Vauban… ABSTRACT: In its genesis, the great cities were built with walled enclosures for its defence. These defensive systems were punctuated by towers whose goal would be the observation of the surrounding area. Évora is a city of ancient origin, and was inhabited successively by several people, the Romans, Goths and Saracens, among others. It integrates currently three sets of walls: The Roman-Gothic-Arab period, the Late Middle Ages in the XIII / XIV century, and the bastion built in the period of the wars of the Restoration, with the Vauban system…
